THE BUILDING

Our property in Cabañal is a spectacular, recently restored building, designed and intended for hosting students, digital nomads, and remote workers who are looking for quality, service and an immersive, unique experience in the city.

Located in a vibrant, modern part of the city, the Cabañal, the property is close to the sea and Valencia’s Marina, which is the cradle of entrepreneurship and innovation in the city. But despite its modernity, it hasn’t lost that sense of tradition that it gained from centuries of being Valencia’s historic harbour district. Modern architecture is accompanied by fragments of the city’s history on the streets.

The building is also close to the promenade and from our terrace, you can enjoy views of the Mediterranean Sea – and beautiful decorations will accompany you on some of the evenings taking in the views.

The building has seven apartments (two of them suitable for those with access needs) which each have two individual rooms with en-suites and a small private kitchen. There are also six individual studios with all the aforementioned utilities.

We also have various shared areas for socializing with other co-livers. We have a living room to relax, chat or work, a meeting room, a sunny terrace to chill out with views of the sea, a lift, a utility room with a washing machine and dryer, as well as private bicycle parking.

All the rooms are decorated meticulously with tasteful, designer elements, and ground floor rooms have direct access to the street, for those with mobility needs.

LOCATION

MyCO Living is located in the district of Cabañal in Valencia, known for its unique urban sprawl and century-old buildings that preserve the popular modernism of the time.

It’s a part of Valencia that is becoming increasingly appreciated by tourists and it’s recommended by many media outlets: “One of the coolest neighbourhoods in Europe”,according  The Guardian.

It was once the fishing district of Valencia. But even with a new cosmopolitan feel, the traditional personality of the area is valued by newcomers and the new stores and bars that are popping up around the area respect and adapt to the traditional architecture.

-Things to do:

There are two nearby, rarely visited museums: the Museo Semana Santa Marinera (Calle del Rosari closed on Mondays, free on Sundays) explains the traditions and heritage of Easter; and the Museo del Arroz, The Rice Museum (3 Calle del Rosari, €2, closed on Mondays, free on Sundays), located in an old rice mill, reveals the truth about the main ingredient of classic paella.

Although not all the tiled houses are in a good state, and they are all private, you can still admire them from the outside. Here are the addresses of some you might like to see: 219 Calle Lluch (the

top flat), 262 Calle Progreso and 37 Calle Mediterráneo, which has a mosaic of tiles showing oxen pulling a fishing boat out of the water. El Drac del Cabañil (191B Calle de la Reina) sells traditional and artisan fabrics and, on the next street along, Hiles, Cuerdas, y Redes (159 Calle Loch) is a traditional shop that sells nautical rope and other nautical items.

-Places to shop

In the Cabañal Market (open all week except Sundays), you’ll discover a mini-version of Valencia’s Central Market, with interesting local delicacies like horchata (a delicious drink native to the Valencia region which is made from tiger nuts and drank cold in the summer), while on Thursdays, there is a small urban market on Calle Vilar, which mainly sells clothes and things for the home.

-Where to eat and drink

Tradition abounds in El Cabañal: Casa Montaña (69 Jose Benlliure) is a classic bar that was founded in 1836 and is famous for its delicious anchovies and mussels – but you should also try their salted tender beans with Iberian ham… how delicious. Its wine cellar has a selection from practically the whole of Spain.

For an authentic seafood experience (like a delicious tart made with squid ink and locally sourced oysters), go to Taska Lareina (173 Reina Street), which you’ll find in the basement of one of the Cabañal’s most beautiful buildings.

For simple and cheap food, try Bodega Bar Flor (21 Martí Grajales), right next to the market. The bar has been serving locals since 1893 – rice dishes are predominant and, while you can’t go wrong with their paella, you could also try arròs amb fesol i naps, a traditional Valencia rice dish with beans and turnips.

Also make sure to visit Ca Tere (61 Reina), in another modernist building that specializes in rice, but with fewer options. The best place for breakfast is Horno San Vicent (148 Progreso), which sells fresh ensaimadas (puff pastries made from butter and sprinkled with sugar) and the best place for horchata is La Jijonenca (307 Padre Luis Navarro and 26 Paseo Neptuno). And for the famous Spanish bocadillos, you’ll find incredible and varied options in La Pascuala (299 Lluch).

-Places for lunch and snacks, As for cafes and bars, in the bookstore and bar known as La Batisfera (167 Calle de la Reina), you can find books to browse in Spanish and English – and they have great vegetarian options. And the Bodega La Aldeana (258 Jose Benlliure) has the best option to try the typical Valencia “almorçaret”. It has many beautiful tapas and has won the “Cacau d’Or” for the best place for lunch in Valencia. And our personal recommendation is that you visit the Cabañal Market (open all days apart from Sundays). It’s a mini-version of the Central Market of Valencia with the best fish in the city and has local delicacies on sale like horchata (a local drink made from tiger nuts and drunk cold in summer).

The coolest place to have a drink is La Fábrica de Hielo, an enormous bar in an old ice factory, on a street near the beach (37 Jose Ballester Gonzalvo). They have a busy programme of live music, arts events and, of course, great tapas provided by a food truck.
